The 4th July as Independence Day national holiday in the U.S

In 1776, 13 British colonies in North America have broken away from their mother country. The United States celebrate their independence day every year with parades.

West of the Mississippi, Spain ruled over its American colonies, Britain stood east of its claims to its colonies. These formed a vast area between the East Coast and the Mississippi River, between Florida and New France in Canada today. The colonists in America considered themselves loyal subjects of the British crown.

Britain wants to raise taxes

As the British national debt had grown enormously through wars, the British crown wanted to achieve more revenue from the colonies. The Crown introduced Sugar Act and Currency Act, and created economic hardship in the colonies. Therefore, in exchange for British goods were boycotted and ostracized. With the slogan "No taxation without representation" and citing the Magna Carta to the settlers appealed to elevate that only their colonial parliaments and not the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain taxes could. Coordinated the first time the colonists to resist. This resistance increased with the motion adopted by England Stamp Act, which called for all official documents and other printed a tax stamp. Groups were formed to defend against the enforcement of the Stamp Act.

The resistance to tax increases for the UK

Although the Stamp Act was repealed in the short term, the British claims as colonial masters continued to exist. In late autumn of 1768 the British Crown sent soldiers to Boston. In March 1769 British soldiers fired into an angry crowd and killed five colonists. After the court hearing could have come peace, but Britain insisted to levy taxes to America and raised a tax on tea, too much tax for the settlers. On 16December 1773 it came to the Boston Tea Party, colonists as a British ship with a cargo of tea boarded and dumped the tea into the sea. The next three years were geprät in America through conferences, petitions, and battles. The last petition, the olive branch petition dated 5 July 1775 was the last attempt by the settlers, to prevent further bloodshed. King George III. refused to accept the petition at all. Not least, it has developed into the Revolutionary War.

13 colonies are going to say

This led to the 1776 defection of 13 colonies from the mother country Great Britain. Since the colonies were cut geographically different than today's federal states, here is the list of colonies, as they are now found in atlases and again: New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Iceland, Connecticut, New York, Vermont, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. The colonies of eastern Florida and West Florida remained unchanged from the British Crown, just as loyal as the colonies continued Nova Scotia, Quebec and Prince Edward Iceland, which later formed the beginnings of Canada.

Each year, commemorates the American people ratified the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on 4 July 1776. For the first time the 13 colonies were referred to as "United States of America." Although the United States of America legally incurred only by the ratification of the Constitution of 1787 , for the Americans is the fourth July, the National Day. On this day, anywhere in the United States with parades, patriotic songs, the fireworks and the flags of many public and private buildings instead. Families meet at the picnic and barbecue and concerts are held in parks. Best known is the confetti parade in New York.
